Write for Top5Trades

Pitch us an idea for UK homeowners. We publish plain-English advice for people who are searching for and hiring tradespeople.

Pitch an idea

Who reads Top5Trades

Our readers are homeowners and tenants across the UK who are looking for a builder, plumber, electrician or another tradesperson. They want straight answers before they ask for quotes. This is not a site for tradespeople, so every pitch has to be written for the person paying for the job.

Send a pitch, not a finished article

We would rather agree the angle with you before you write. A good pitch is a working headline plus two or three sentences on what a homeowner will know afterwards that they did not know before.

Topics we publish

  • Home maintenance and repairs
  • What jobs cost and why
  • Choosing and working with a tradesperson
  • Planning renovations
  • Energy efficiency and heating
  • Regulations and safety, in plain English and specific to the UK

Our rules

  • Original, and not published anywhere else.
  • Roughly 1,000 to 2,000 words.
  • UK English, with UK costs, rules and regulations.
  • Written for homeowners, in plain English.
  • One link in your author bio, plus at most one link in the body, and only if it genuinely helps the reader.
  • Everything is edited by us. We may change, shorten or cut anything, and we may ask you to back up a claim.
  • Commercial posts are labelled as sponsored. Every link to another site in a guest article is marked as sponsored, whether or not the post is paid for.

What we turn down

  • Other directories, lead generation sites and quote comparison sites
  • Marketing and SEO agencies
  • Off-topic content
  • Unedited AI output
  • Spun or republished articles
  • Gambling, crypto, loans, CBD and similar, whatever the angle

Writing for us has no effect on our rankings

Our Top 5 lists are independently researched. Guest articles sit in their own section, are never shown on or linked from a ranked Top 5 page, and have no effect on rankings or featured listings.

Listed businesses cannot buy a better position, and writing for us does not change that. Featured placements are a separate, clearly labelled product and do not influence the ranking either. See how we choose.

How it works

  1. Pitch. Send the form on this page.
  2. Reply. We reply to pitches we can use. If you do not hear from us, it is a no.
  3. Draft. You write it to the angle we agreed.
  4. Edit. We edit for accuracy, plain English and UK rules, and may come back with questions.
  5. Approval. You see the final version before it goes live.
  6. Scheduled. We agree a publication date and tell you.

Commercial or sponsored posts are discussed by email once we have agreed a topic.
